HVAC Mechanical Design Engineer – Maritime Systems
Location: Majority Remote, Weekly Glasgow visits

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated HVAC Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in developing advanced Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems for high-performance maritime environments.
You’ll be paid a high hourly rate and work on technically fascinating and mission-critical systems, contributing to design solutions that support the safety, efficiency, and operability of some of the most advanced warships in the world.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Apply your HVAC expertise to solve complex mechanical design challenges across all phases of the shipbuilding lifecycle.
- Contribute to the development and assurance of HVAC architectures, ensuring designs are technically sound and operationally safe.
- Collaborate with subcontractors and internal stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose HVAC systems.
- Support continuous improvement by shaping engineering processes, tools, and standards.
- Conduct technical investigations and analyses, recommending innovative and practical solutions.
- Influence overall warship design by understanding HVAC’s impact on survivability, acoustic performance, maintainability, and more.
- Prepare detailed specifications and design appraisals aligned with strict quality and safety requirements.
- Mentor and support less experienced engineers within the team.
- Act as a key technical contact for customers and suppliers in your area of responsibility.
What We’re Looking For:
- Ideally degree-qualified in engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of engineering experience, preferably within defence, marine, or similarly regulated industries.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards).
- Strong technical knowledge of marine HVAC systems and auxiliary mechanical systems.
- Experience in the design, build, integration, and operation of naval vessels.
